However to us, photography is art and that creation of art flows flows from before you push the shutter right through to the final photo editing process.Īnd as artists, we’ll be the first to admit there are times where we struggle to achieve the end result that we had in mind, in part due to our own capabilities within specific photo editing tools.Įnter Luminar Neo, an AI-powered photo editing software that simplifies the editing process and helps to unlock your creative potential. Some people are purists and claim that a photo isn’t ‘real’ if it’s been edited. There’ll be months where we are focused on minimal post processing, keeping our images as close to life as possible, and other times where we allow our artistic minds to run free, pushing all the tools we have at our disposal to generate the most stunning photos we can manage. We’ve been working as professional photographers for over 10 years now, and our process for editing photos is constantly evolving. Our Luminar Neo review breaks down all the features, what we like, and what we don’t like, to help you decide if it’s the right tool for you. I have the "Amazing Animals" and "Perfect Portraits" templates, and none actually works on my cat portraits. We’ve spent the past few weeks testing out this high-tech, AI-powered photo editing software to see if it’s worth the hype. The so-called "Premium" templates has no advantages over the built-in ones at least for my use. Mouse scrolling makes the computer unresponsive and the only way to get out of it is to kill Luminar AI in Task Manager.Īs for the Luminar X membership page, that's had its problems, but the company seems to have cleared that up now.Īs a Luminar X subscriber, I do NOT find that it has "problems", but it seems useless at the moment. Probably because I exported about 100 images from PhotoLab4 to Luminar AI (as "Single Image Edits") when I run it as standalone, and just adding the images to the catalog nearly hanged my computer. You might imagine how happy that made me. When I reached out to On1 tech support, they told me that they had upgraded their software and now my old computer couldn't use it properly. The performance is simply subpar once you grow your catalog, unlike PhotoLab 4 or Lightroom.Ĭould the computer itself be making a difference? I'd like to think not, but I once had a great deal of trouble with On1 RAW, right out of the blue, for what seemed to be no good reason. It is amazing to say that one has no problems with performance of Luminar AI, because it actually does NOT use the GPU and rely solely on the CPU, from navigation to editing. Various alterations are made and then sent directly back to Photoshop with all adjustments intact. Regardless of whether I'm replacing a sky, using a Template or Look, employing AI adjustments or applying texture effects, I've never had a breakdown or hiccup of any kind. That seems odd to me, because I use Luminar 4 and AI quite extensively, accessing those products through my Photoshop Filters menu. It seems as if there are quite a number of people in this forum who view Luminar as little more than a piece of junk, one that endlessly seems to break down. What's true for the goose should be true for the gander, and that's where I get confused.
